L is for Lights

I'm probably getting boring with my titles with the letters of the alphabet, but it's the only thing we're doing lately. ABC's of Christmas is still going strong, and the kids love it. We went and drove around a neighborhood tonight to see the lights. But I didn't bring my camera. Bummer! There are quite a few Clark Grizwolds out here who go out of control with the lights. One home we drove by was decked out with everything--you know the type--about 10 inflatables (Snowmen, Santa, penguins, etc.), lights on the roof, in the bushes, on the windows, and every display from the 70's to last year. But this one was different...there was also a REAL Santa outside sitting on his bench near the sidewalk waving at the (few) cars driving by. It was the best. We stopped the car and let the kids walk up to meet the REAL Santa. This guy was better than the mall Santa hands down. I stayed in the car with the baby while Tyler walked Whitney & Cole up to meet him. I got the whole re-cap from the kids about how Santa asked them if they were being good, what they wanted for Christmas, and his strict instructions to go to bed extra early on Christmas Eve so he can go down our chimney. He gave them each a candy cane after the kids promised him that they would be good. Whitney was so excited about the candy cane that she asked if she could sleep with it. Luckily, we compromised and she put it in her stocking instead. Whitney also told us that we need to buy a chimney so Santa can come give us presents. We explained to her that Santa has magic and can come in lots of different ways even if there are no chimneys. Hopefully she won't have any more questions. It's hard being consistent with our Santa tales! We had a great night. I was glad we took the time to drive and see the lights. The kids loved it; I just wish I could have gotten a picture of the kids meeting their new best friend. I think Cole understands this Santa guy much much better now!
