Kid update

Annie is quite determined to walk. She took her first official steps at the end of July and was toying with the idea of walking for the whole month of August.

It seems like every day it's something new. At first she would hold onto a chair and then take one step to the couch. Then she got brave and would take 2 steps. Last week she was perfecting clapping while standing and then drinking her sippy cup while standing. Her favorite trick now is speed-crawling over to where the action is (usually by Whitney & Cole) and then standing up about 3 feet away from her destination and walking to the nearest person. It's amazing to see this growth on a daily basis... not to mention the new bumps and bruises she's aquiring from learning this skill.

Cole is still out of control, but we love him like nothing else. Tyler was snitching a cracker from Cole's plate the other day and Cole said, "OOOOooooo Daddy sounds like BUSTeeeeeeeeeddddd!!!" His intonation was perfect, his phrase, not so much. We about died laughing.

Cole also has us cracking up with his latest phrase, "What's up doing, man?!!"

He and Whitney had behavior charts that we were working on pretty much all summer, and they finally earned their prizes in August. Cole's prize was the Venom costume, and he wore it with pride the morning he earned it. I made some smoothies for breakfast and then left the room for maybe 5 minutes. I came back and saw Cole's face colored. Whitney had proudly made him into a clown with no objections from Cole. Thankfully a few months ago I tossed all the non-washable markers in the house. This washed off in no time.

Whitney loved pet-sitting for our friends toward the end of August. She was so diligent in remembering to feed the fish his "breakfast" every morning. I am proud to report that he was returned to his owners in good health. The water in the bowl was dirty, but he was alive!

She also started preschool on Wednesday. She is so excited to be going to a "real" preschool, and I am excited for her to have this experience. Her teachers and friends are great, and so far, so good.

She's learning responsibility by packing up her snack and laying out her clothes the night before. I think we're going to have a fun year!

Cole is so dang funny! I bet every time he opens his mouth is an experience. :) Whitney looks so cute and grown up. I'm glad she likes pre-school. Emma GOT IN to her little school and starts on Monday - hooray!

So washable markers aren't just a wishful thought or a myth? I haven't been brave enough to try them yet. But if you say Cole's face washed right up, I'm a believer! Loved the update and seeing what your cute kids are up to.

I love how Cole is always dressed up in his superhero finery for your blog. The Nelsons are such a fun group of characters!

Please tell me how those kids are getting so darn big?!?! Love them all to death and loved reading about them. Annie walking...or was she a newborn last time I saw her? Cole is just plain awesome, and Whitney in preschool - congrats, cute girl!

I can't believe how determined Annie is to walk - Joshua was the opposite - he didn't really care about it.
Cole cracks me up! Can I just play with him for a day - I love all the sayings you post about him.
I'm so impressed about your idea about packing a snack and laying out clothes each night - I might copy.

I can just picture cute lil Annie clapping and standing. That Cole of course--can't help but just smile seeing his marker face in the Venom costume. And that darling little Whitney. All grown up and taking over babysitting a fish! Way to keep it alive. No small feat (ours died a few months ago, so I say that with experience)!

I think Sam and Cole were cut from the same pattern...maybe its just a boy thing!!

Cuties.
Cole is so hilarious. Honestly, boys are so wild and unruly. I don't know what it is about the phrase terrible twos. For me it's terrible threes. Vance suddenly is well, awe-some shall we say, with some serious sarcastic overtones.

What fun kids! We have the Venom pjs and they are worn regularly around here. I love the "What's up doing, man" - it sounds like my boys' "What's going up, dude?"

Annie sure is cute and I love babies this age!

Whitney is probably loving preschool. Truman just started as well, but I will have to teach him to pick out his clothes like she does - then the venom pjs won't try to go to school.
