What is my deal? It's been so long since I last posted an update. My friend Anjie made a comment today on the post below noting that I had been neglecting the blog and asking if I was pregnant. If that's not a big enough incentive for me to get blogging again, I don't know what is! Even though she's hundreds of miles away from me, she made me blush while sitting here at my computer. As far as I know, my womb is barren, so if you have came to the blog looking for an announcement... sorry. No exciting news. Just updates, travel logs, and pictures...
So, where to start?
Tyler's 3rd year break was assigned to him to be the month of September. Yes, we just had May off (for his 2nd year break), so we weren't completely excited about practically back-to-back vacations. But we found some great deals on flights (and Annie could fly free till the 29th!) so we decided to head out of town for the month.

On September 1st, we took the 6am flight out to Colorado to check things out and see if we could live out there post-residency. Tyler had set up an appointment with some people to check out a career opportunity, and of course, Tyler's sister is out there, so we were able to spend a fun week with her and her sweet family! Here is Tyler on the flight. Just reading a book and relaxing while Annie is looking for trouble.
I took Whitney & Cole over to the Butterfly pavilion by Marlie's house and they loved it. Whitney held "Rosie" the tarantula. YIKES!After Rose, we enjoyed the sauna-like room where hundreds of butterflies are flying all over the place. The kids were in heaven. Did I mention that butterflies are Whitney's favorite animal? She is obsessed.
We checked out two towns in Colorado for potential places to settle. One was just less than an hour north of Tyler's sister, and it reminded me SO much of Texas. I loved the "big sky" feel to the area.
Marlie & Kris were so kind and generous to us. It made us realize how much we miss them while we're out here in NorCal and they're so far away. On our last day in town, we all went out to Boulder to see the fun sights (and people).
Tyler couldn't resist getting this shark hat for the kids. Cole wore it for the rest of the afternoon and on the airplane to Texas. He was not a hard one to spot with that thing on!
I can't believe how few pictures I got of our trip there. And the ones I did get were pretty random! Marlie is so good at taking pictures of everything. She got some shots of the kids playing at the kiddie pool, destroying her garden, and of all of us at her aerobics class. [You can check out her blog here if you wish to see more pictures of our trip.] Did I mention that she is a newly certified kickboxing instructor? Or that my rear-end, legs, and arms were sore for no shorter than 4 days afterward?! She taught a KILLER class and we loved it! :)
Next, we flew to Texas for some fun with Grandma & Grandpa and for Tyler to check out another potential job. We made a trip to the Space Center on one of our first days there, and now the kids want to be astronauts when they grow up. There was a George Lucas exhibit set up for us to enjoy -- complete with an Indiana Jones indoor ropes course.
Don't you love the family picture above? Sing it with me... "WE ARE A HAPPY FAMILY!!"
The kids enjoyed re-enacting space missions and learned a lot from the IMAX movie we saw.

Unfortunately, Tyler caught a bug somewhere between CA, CO, and TX. His poor eyes were puffy, he had a weird rash on his body, and he was just not himself with how tired he felt. Oh well, that didn't stop me from dragging him on a last minute jaunt across the state to experience the HEART of Texas. The grandparents offered to watch the kids for us so we could go enjoy a getaway in San Antonio. A cute group of traveling empty-nesters stopped us and offered to take a picture of us "honeymooners."

Little did they know that we recently had our lucky 7th anniversary and that there were 3 kids back at home... having a party with Grandma & Grandpa!
We were going to stop in Austin on our way home and make other "drop-by" visits, but with the way Tyler was feeling, we decided it would be best to just head back. Tyler rested while I drove through a killer Texas rain storm. I really thought Noah and his ark were going to show up on the freeway there was so much flooding. That was just one of the times I realized on this trip how much I had acclimatized to NorCal. I was such a wimp with the heat and humidity. Tyler had to keep reminding me to be nice and not so harsh on Texas. But really, we had a great time and found some great ways to beat the heat:
POOL--every day:
This was their first time to the build-a-bear shop. They ATE it UP!! The worker there couldn't have loved her job any more; she was really sweet with the kids.ITZ: A Chuck-E-Cheese-like place, but on steroids--fun for all ages

Of course we had fun visiting my brothers. Uncle Todd was a great sport letting the kids climb all over him all the time and letting us crash his new bachelor pad!
After we got back home to California, Whitney got back into the grove of school and Cole got to start up our "Mothergoose Preschool"--the home preschool where several of us moms take turns teaching in our homes twice a week. Here is our lovely obligatory first day of school picture by the front door:
While I held down the fort, Tyler took a trip down to So Cal to check out another potential post-residency location. He had a great time and made it back just in time for his parents to come in town for a quick visit. Oh, and how could I forget? Tyler & Whitney and his parents also went and saw Wicked (finally!) and really enjoyed it.
That pretty much wraps up Tyler's month off! I would say we sufficiently partied, yet we still got some work accomplished towards figuring out where we're going to end up after residency.

Oh, Nat, now I'm blushing because I made you blush! Heh heh. Thanks for the OUTSTANDING new post -- you won't get any more saucy comments from me for a while, just sheer admiration.
P.S. How fun that you're looking into a place to live post-residency. Livin' the dream, Nelsons... XO
What a great month! I am so glad Tyler had such a long break. And how fun to think about post-residency. We would love to live in Colorado too. Maybe we could end up closer to each other after all of this. :) It was also so fun to see a picture of Lindsey. Please tell her 'Hi' for me, next time you talk to her. Is her blog the lindsey and richie private one on the side of yours. I tried to click it, but obviously couldn't get through. Anyway - I am so glad you had a month together and got to visit family and have at least a little of a break.
I'm loving it! Thanks for a great update! Look forward to seeing you guys for Thanksgiving. :)
Haha, I have to admit I have also wondered lately about your womb. :) What a fun month! And all those potential job opportunities must be so reassuring! Great to hear from you.
Yay for some time with Daddy! So glad you had such a fun time together. And, I am in LOVE with that "we are a happy family!" picture. That should be your Christmas card. We all have one (or several) of those. (And the "sing it with me" had me totally giggling. Love you.) So fun to see some pictures of your cute fam. They're all growing up so fast. Can't wait to hear which job opportunity you choose. Wish it was here in UT. Just saying.
Love you guys. xoxo
Great post! So fun to see pics of you and the kids. Sounds like you had a fun power-packed few trips. Lovin' that we are a happy family pic too. LOVE YA!! XOXO
Great recap and all the pictures made me smile. You really did pack it in. What fun memories to last until the next break!
What a fun trip. I love visiting family. It makes it evern more fun to go and do fun things with everyone. Good memory making experiences. Your kids are so darn cute. I want to see pictures of your new living room Linda helped you with.
Lady, you guys know how to work hard and PLAY hard! What fun trips! I will be excited to hear where you end up post-residency.
Okay, I am so jealous of you. You are so lucky to get your husband for several weeks. And you always do fun stuff. I am jealous! I loved the place in Colorado with all the mountains. It was beautiful! Have you guys decided where you want to go yet?
If I was having as much fun as y'all, I wouldn't worry about blogging, either! :) Great update! We love you! Good luck making a decision with all of the information you gathered. ;)
I'm SO sad we forgot to take pics together. Thank you for coming to visit us. I soaked the short few hours in--it was a highlight this fall. Give those cute kiddos hugs.
how cool to look at post residency places. I was just talking to the oral surgeon in our ward about you and he wants Tyler to call him. He is looking to be done soon. How does Vegas sound???? Give me a call or I will email you his name and number. He is a great guy. He was exctied to hear about Tyler.

Whew! What a trip. I think I wiped my brow and sat back in my chair after finishing! Thanks for the update. I think my all-time favorite picture was of "the happy family" at the space museum. Classic! You guys rock. Keep us posted when you decide where to spend the next few years of your life! LOVE YOU!
Kristi
Nats- How fun! I have to agree with Annie, are you sure there isn't a job in SG Tyler could take? We would make great neighbors!!! I am so happy for you that you are in that phase. It must be a stressful relief. So glad you had a blast with your fam. I was laughing about you in the heat and humidity- I felt that way on my last trip up to SLC with the cold and the snow. So sad that I've forgotten. Love you so much, Nats. Come live here!
"We are a happy family!" Hahhahahahah.... ah....
Nats, of course you aren't blogging, you're too busy LIVING! Good gravy that's a lot of stuff going on! Glad you guys had fun now take a nap already! :)
You look like you had a great time together, wow, even a date weekend. And friends/family everywhere you went!? What a bunch of superheroes you have there. Even the baby's wearing Spiderman. The kids are sure cute. Kathleen
WOW! You were busy! I can't believe May was that long ago! It feels like you were just here! I am glad you had so much fun, and I hope you end up somewhere close to us so we can drop in on you!! BTW, my family is going to California next summer for two weeks, so we just might be in your neck of the woods. I will have to find out exactly where we are going, but I am sure my Dad would LOVE to see you and your crew.
So fun to catch up on everything y'all have been up to! You'll have to let me know if anything goes forward with CO. We lived in Castle Rock for 3 years (don't know if that's anywhere close to the place y'all were looking into south of Denver). Definitely some great things about living there.
Oh and yum on the Rudy's BBQ - just got back from TX myself and ate myself silly. Think I had a whole dozen Shipley's donuts to myself. :)
You and your cute family look so great!
I'm always a bit intimidated by your large posts that cover so much but when I get reading I just can't stop. I love you more every time I read. You guys were all over the place in that month. You sure know how to make Tyler's vacations time productive. I'm excited for you to find out where you will be settling post residency. The end is in sight, woohoo!
I love that you took the time to hook up with so many relatives and old buddies. You truly make your relationships a priority.
And all of those wonderful and brilliant activities and outting for the kids. Your children are spoiled, spoiled, spoiled. I love it. Thanks for inspiring me with so many good ideas.
Poor Tyler with the sickness. That puffy eye thing sounds strange and not like a typical cold. Do you think it was stress related?
