Cole loves to introduce himself to strangers as different Disney characters. Some that he has called himself lately are: Marlin, Nemo, Buzz, Woody, Lightning McQueen, Doc Hudson, and Mater. One time a nice lady and daughter at our complex asked Cole, "What's your name?"
I'm Woody!
"Huh?" The lady was so confused.
I'm Buzz!.... And (pointing to the 5 year old girl) You're LITTLE BO PEEP!!
Me interjecting... "No Cole, she's Suzy."
(pointing to me) You're the DINOSAUR!
Grandma & Grandpa Decker took the kids to the park to fly some kites. Cole was standing next to my mom playing with rocks and grass while singing some sort of song. She couldn't make out what he was singing so she said, "Wow, Cole! That's a pretty song. What are you singing?" Without a moment's hesitation he demanded, "PAY ATTENTION GRANDMA!"
You can't say the "s" word [share] around him. He freaks out and thinks he's going to lose something. The other day I said, "Wow, Whitney that's so nice of you to share with Cole!" Cole heard the "s" word and immediately says, "I don't wanna share!!" It's sad that you can't reason with him and explain, "No, Whitney is sharing, not you!" But he doesn't want to hear that "s" word. He loves to share with you if you ask, "Cole, will you give me a raisin?" But not if you ask, "Cole can you share some raisins with me?"
Lately he asks to snuggle his "cold" blanket (with a silky backing), not his "warm" blankets --that don't have silk material.
Cole is obsessed with the Who's Your Hero scripture stories. He has them memorized and loves to use them in every day conversations:* After waking up in a grumpy mood Cole comes over to me. "Mommy, I'm a naughty boy. I have a hard heart!" (Alma the Younger story)
* We were taking some extra bodies home from church, and I volunteered to ride on the floor of the van for 2 short miles. Cole was listening to the song in the car while softly brushing my hair with his fingers. The song must have said something about prayer because Cole said, "Just like Enos prays sincerely, right mom?" "Oh, good boy, Cole! That's right!" I answered. My mom overheard our conversation and she said, "Doesn't that just melt your heart?" I agreed and started bragging about what a sweetheart Cole was when all of a sudden I feel a Sunday shoe whack on my head. I spoke too soon!
* At the park, I told him that it was time to go. When I went to grab him off the slide, he yells with more drama than a 2 year old boy should have, "TOUCH ME NOT! I exclaimed." (Quoting his Abinadi story.)

You are a doll, your children are dolls.. I love the upbeat rhythm in your writing and I love to hear the happiness and lives of others! Natalie I am so glad to learn about your family growing. It is so impressive to me to have met you and seen the beginnings of your family. But now to see three now in your household and to hear of their cuter than life personalities is a hoot! I am checking in on you and I wish you a fabulous day!
Oh my gosh, their knowledge of the scriptures is HILARIOUS! I need to do whatever you're doing! What great journal-moments.
I don't know what i love more - the stories or the fabulous pictures. I'm so glad you're documenting these things. You should write a book. Thanks for the laugh.
Love you,
Annie (Karren) -looks like you've got lots of "Annie" friends so I need to start distinguishing myself!

Your family sure looks fun and your kids are beautiful! I think McKinley and Annie will have to be roommates at BYU in 18 years, what do you think? I loved your story about the people gawking at you at the store. I don't get that here as much, but Katherine sure does in Texas. They are expecting #5 this fall. No April fooling. That announcement is what inspired Brian's joke. Anyway, it is fun to see what you are up to!
Nats--those are too hilarious! So funny. "touch me not" is too much. Sure miss and love you guys!
You have got to be kidding me?! You guys are the best parents and have THE smartest kids hands down! Touch me not?!?! HE CRACKS ME UP!!! We've gotta get those stories.
What a character! He sounds like a funny boy, he'll probably be just like his dad! It sounds like boys can be fun too!
I just glanced briefly through pictures and some of the fun coleisms, but I wanted to say hi! When I get more time (like tomorrow) I'll read through more of it. Give Heidi a big hug from me.
I love this post! It is so fun to hear the things kids say. It also shows how well you have taught your kids the scriptures. You are amazing!
Keep all the "isms" coming we love hearing what's happening with the Nor Cal Nelsons. We love and miss you all. Jenny and the VA Nelsons
Love that boy! I'm sure you have plenty more Cole-isms where those come from--at least one a day with that boy. "Give him a HUG!" for me.
I'll take "Touch me not!" over "Get off me!" any day!!! Very cute.
I LOVE the "touch me not!" Hillarious!
