Have you ever had that feeling that you're not in the mood to go somewhere? (a wedding reception, birthday party, church party...) You've known about it for a while and it's on your calendar. If you don't go, you think just a few people will notice, and if you miss it you think it won't be a big deal. But then you decide to go anyway, and you end up having a really great time? (If you've never had these feelings, then consider yourself lucky that you don't have anti-social tendencies like me.)
But that's kind of how this weekend was. We've known about Tyler's 10 year high school reunion for months and months. We went back and forth a hundred times trying to decide to go or not. We had some great reasons to go, and about a thousand little reasons not to go. We finally made our decision the Thursday night before (very late that night). It was a quickly thrown together trip to say the least, but we were glad we just went and did it.
We left Saturday morning around 8am, and we got back Sunday afternoon around 4pm. We drove straight down to So Cal and visited my dad & his family. The kids had a blast running around their place, and it was great to catch up with them. Then we dropped the kids off with Tyler's Aunt and cousins and went to the reunion. We spent the night at Tyler's Grandma's house, went to her church on Sunday, and then headed straight home.
We compiled some stats from the weekend. In no particular order, here they are:
The number of...
...miles traveled: 853...hours in the car: 13
...DVD players in the car: 0
...times "Uptown Girl" was played for Cole: 16
...times "Lucky" (Jason Mraz) was played for Whitney: 7
...family members we got to visit: 8
...dogs held by the kids: 6
...cats attempted to be held: 1
...friends we caught up with: about 80
...times a drunk girl goosed Tyler at his reunion: 5 - NO LIE
...minutes the kids lasted at church Sunday morning: 30
Lowest gas price: $3.59
Highest gas price: $4.49
We had a great time with no regrets except for the goosing incidents and not taking more pictures. I had put Tyler's small camera in my purse and used it for the first time at his reunion. Doh! I wish I had taken more pictures of the kids on the trip. Oh well. Tyler takes his camera to work, so we'll have to upload a picture or two the next time he brings it home. This weekend: off to Texas for my 10 year reunion. Wish us luck!
*Update: I guess we did have 2 pictures of the kids after all! I was going to post some reunion pictures, but I don't know the names of people. I'll have Tyler post his reunion pictures on his Facebook account.

HAHAHA. What kind of boy was Tyler in high school?? Those goosing incidents must have been a little awkward. We've had many a spontaneous trip like that and as fun as they are, it's always nice to come back home.
Does Goosing mean they kissed him on the lips?!!!!! Oh that would infuriate me! Especially at Jim's reunion since he grew up in Provo Utah and nobody was drunk at his... ;) Luckily that didn't happen to us!
As for not wanting to go to stuff and then having fun; well, it happens to me almost on a weekly basis. I"m always hesitant to go, (totally the anti-social one) and am always being dragged away by my husband laughing and talking a million miles an hour. Hmmmm.... guess I"m not anti-social, just a reluctant-social? I don't know. Glad you guys went though! Can't wait to hear some news from Texas!
sounds like so much fun...maybe we'll brave ours one of these years.
Wow, sounds like some kind of party. I'm sure there were many jealous girls and guys since your are a striking couple. It will be interesting to see how yours goes. I'm glad you had a good time, goosing and all. Have fun in TX!!
My kids love Billy Joel too! Although their favorite is, "My Life". I can't believe Tyler got goosed, uggg! And I am sincerely impressed about the lack of DVD player. We don't have one in our 4Runner either, but when we drive to California (13 hrs one way) we always whip out the portable! You are awesome.
I must be behind, because I have NO idea what being "goosed" is. Feel free to fill me in! :)
Have an awesome time in TX!
I guess the term "goosing" might be a California thing. I was trying to keep my blog G-rated, but for those of you who don't know...it's when someone grabs your rear. But not in a basketball slap "hey, nice shot man!" kind of way. Yeah, a little awkward.
Well, I hope there is no goosing at THS this weekend. After I got your email today I thought twice about going and this post made me feel GUILTY! but there are so many other things going on that I don't think we can make a last minute switch. Have fun. I'll look forward to hearing about it.
Was it the same girl all night long? And if so, how did you refrain from body slamming her?
The next time you take a LEASURELY trek down this way, we'd love to have you over for dinner or meet you at the Getty Center.
Good luck in Texas!
That is hilarious!! I don't know what I would do if drunk girls were doing that to my husband. At a dental school party, a drunk girl put her hand on Chris's thigh and I about wrestled her to the ground. Chris actually wishes that I would have =) Your blog is always so cute and I can't believe how much Annie looks like Whitney! I love it! I hope you enjoyed your reunion too!
Love the stats! I remember going nuts when "Uptown Girl" would come on the radio... but then I was in 4th grade!! How cute! We missed you Sunday. Glad you had a great time!!!
Oh that is funny. I only wish you had gotten some pictures! I would love to have seen Ty and your face during the "incident." Who were these girls? Old flings or old wannabes? Scandalous!
Sounds like a fun quick trip. Loved the pictures of the kids -- it would be fun to see a picture of you and Tyler and some of his old high school buddies too even though I don't knoa any of the people. Glad you had a great time at the reunion minus the goosing.
I'm so proud of you guys for going to his high school reunion. I gracefully had other plans the weekend of mine. I know I was a chicken and woosie but at the time, there were few things that topped the list of things I didn't want to do. However, I have to say, if I would have known I'd be goosed numerous times, I would have reconsidered. :)
