I would be remiss not to acknowledge our sweet friends who recently experienced tragedy. They were about 10 days shy of having their baby girl when they found out she passed away because of a knot in the umbilical cord. So sad. It's been a reminder to us of the miracle of life, and how in a moment, our lives can change forever. Our friends have constantly been on our minds and in our prayers.
Because of this experience, I've found myself seeing things with a new perspective this past week. I've tried harder to answer Whitney's never-ending questions with a smile instead of a rushed answer. I've tried harder to keep my patience with Cole. I've tried harder to not get frustrated when I've picked up tupperware lids for the 26th time that Annie got out of the drawer. Life is so precious, and I'm grateful to our friends for their examples of faith during this hard time. You guys are still in our thoughts and our prayers. We love you.

Here are some things we've been up to...
On Cole's birthday we saw my old friend Rachel from Texas. She and her husband were in Nor Cal for a vacation. The last time we saw them was at their wedding reception when Whitney was about 3 months old. Now she has 2 darling little boys, and we were able to meet up with them at a beach. The kids were in heaven playing around in the sand and water. Cole was unmanageable and out of control, but Whitney was in love with her new friends. As we were driving away she said, "Why do we have to leave mom?!" After I told her it was because the boys had to ride on the airplane back to their home she said, "But I LOVE my new cousins SO MUCH!" I consider Rachel family for sure. :)

Prop 8 has been keeping us busy. Little did Tyler and I know what we were getting into when we signed up to be volunteers for this YES on 8 campaign. Tyler waved signs on the street corner the other weekend, and I ran flyers & yard signs to houses yesterday with my sister. It's amazing to see this issue all over the place in California. People have become divided about it, but it still makes me grateful to live in this country where we can voice our opinions freely.
Speaking of free speech... I came across this video, and I really liked it. My favorite part is the last pastor who speaks in the purple shirt and white collar. In my opinion, he hit the nail on the head.
Prop 8 and this election are almost over! I cannot wait. I am anxious to see what happens on Tuesday... The phone calls we keep getting for this election are driving me nuts. I seriously have stopped answering my phone. I think I'm the last person on earth without caller ID, so I don't have the ability to screen my phone calls like others. I'm sick of the phone, and I'll resume picking up the phone on Wednesday.

HALLOWEEN:
We had a great time at our church "Trunk or Treat" party. I had a stye on my eye for a few days before the party, so I decided to be a pirate. Luckily for me, the stye had mostly cleared up by Saturday afternoon, so I didn't have to wear that patch the entire night. Phew!
Tyler sprayed Whitney's hair jet black, and she LOVED it. However, it made her hair nasty as straw for about 2-3 days. It was such a pain to wash out the night of the party that we decided not to spray it again on Halloween night.Speaking of the hunk... Tyler started a new rotation today. He was showered and ready to go at 5am this morning. When I saw the clock I said, "You know it's really 4am, right?" He said, "How sure are you that today is Daylight savings?" My answer was 99.98% but he just said, "Oh well" and headed out the door. Did I mention that his shift goes till noon tomorrow? Poor kid will not be getting any sleep tonight either. Wish us luck with this new rotation. It goes till the end of December. Yuck!

Soooo cute! I love the costumes! Your kids are darling, like always. I can't believe Tyler's hair. He is a nut! He really gets into whatever he does, doesn't he? You guys are great together. Great post. I really enjoyed reading all that you wrote. Good job! Take care, Mandi
Thanks Natalie for your post, and for acknowledging the importance of perspective. I, too, have had a new perspective on many things this past week and have so much more love and gratitude for my kids.
Love the Halloween pictures!!
The costumes, the reminder of how sweet life is, the shout out for Prop 8, Tyler's awesome trailer park do, new rotations...it was all fun to read and see. What full and amazing lives.
Meet the other American left in the country who doesn't have caller ID, either! :)
Loved the recap and pics, as always! You guys are awesome.
Oh where to start? What a heartbreaking thing your friends are going through. I just can't imagine. I did just love this update and all the pictures. You are the cutest family ever in the Halloween pic!! And I'm so happy to see Annie's leggings fit. :) Could her eyes get any bigger, by the way?? So cute. Whitney looked GORGEOUS in her costume and with her fancy black hair. And Cole is just such a cutie. Tyler's hair is out of control...I wish we could have seen it in person. Poor guy with his new rotation...good luck you guys, and hang in there!
Wow that is one sexy man! Yowza! ;)
Things have been getting heated even in Utah for Prop 8. Hang in there, only two more days!
You guys are adorable!
I'm so sorry to hear about your friends' tragedy. How heartbreaking.
As for the other stuff, I've heard that the Prop 8 stuff is really intense in CA. Good for you for volunteering and getting involved. So impressive.
Also, I loved seeing your family in all of your Halloween glory. Whitney's hair was amazing. Cole is always such a doll and Annie is getting so grown up!! Glad your stye cleared up in time for you to appreciate Tyler's lovely mullet! :)
Love you guys.
Tyler's hairdo is just crazy! But your kids are darling. Thanks for letting me peek into your busy lives!
It was so fun to see you. Your kids are darling and like I said, YOU ARE MY IDOL. I have much to look forward to in our med school education life. I loved the costumes.
Could you have a more action packed post!!
So sorry to hear about your friends. What can you do or say? Thankfully we know this isn't where it ends.
I love the costumes! Girl, the Nelsons go all out! Tyler is so darling to spray paint Whitney's hair! I can't believe it!
Tylers do--well, really, I think he's just admitting his deeply hidden Texas pride.
I've been watching Prop 8. Wow. I think it will pass!!! Yeah!
I can't believe how big Annie is. So fun that you dress up for Halloween. I am a party pooper. Brandon went to a pumplin patch too and had a blast.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAH your posts always crack me up! I was totally having a depressed O-Bomb-a day until I saw Tyler's hair haha WOw. And that Prop 8 video was perfect. They were absolutely right about how ridiculous it is to compare skin to sin! Thank goodness it is all over! My cell phone minutes are way over because of it - I'm just glad you guys stayed safe waving around signs up there! I am so glad we took off before this whole thing hit the fan! Sign waving wasn't so bad down here! We had a ton of supporters!
p.s i just went to fill out the word verification to leave my comment and it made me type "incest i" in the box.. uh, weird?
Woohoo! Prop 8 passed!!! Evan's fam lives in Cali and we've been hearing how much WORK everyone has been doing to help it pass. Tons of time and effort.
Thanks a ton to all you Californians that worked like crazy to get it to pass!!
Nats, my Dad just sent me an email letting us know what all of you Californians have been up to with Prop 8- what a sacrifice you've made. I am seriously so proud of you and proud to be your cousin. It made me think of all that I need to do. And I can't even being to talk about you cuteness on Halloween! Last time Jed was here, he showed me Tyler's mullet movie on Facebook and I just about died laughing. I am so glad the mullet lives on. Love you, Nats. Have a great day and kiss you fam from us.
You have, hands down, the most beautiful family ever. I loved the pictures. So so precious Natalie. Tyler is such a nut. His shirt is the sickest thing I've ever seen...next to his hair. :) Sure love you guys.
