Last July my mother-in-law, Linda, came out here for a visit. She was cruising along on a weight loss plan (Nutrimirror) that she introduced to Tyler and me. We gave her a high five and thought it was great that she was so dedicated to her cause.A few months after Linda left, I figured it was probably time to start losing my last 10 pounds of "baby weight." So I logged into Linda's FREE Nutrimirror program and started watching what I ate. I don't remember exactly why, but I didn't keep with the program and fell off the bandwagon.
Then Tyler & I joined a gym, and I noticed some weight loss. But after a few months I just plateaued with my 2-3 pounds of loss. I figured that I was just always going to be at that weight because I was a mom of 3 kids and gaining weight is just what happens. So I gave away a box of college clothes that I was keeping in the back of my closet hoping to fit back into someday.
Then one day in March of this year, my darling sister-in-law, Danica, posted on her blog about the AMAZING results she was experiencing with Nutrimirror (NM). It was the catalyst that I was looking for. I talked with her and determined that I too had to try NM because it undoubtedly was a tool that worked for real people that I knew--Danica was losing her babyweight like nothing else (her baby was just 3 months old!), and my mother-in-law had hit her weight loss goal a few months earlier around Thanksgiving.
I got serious about tracking what I ate and asked Tyler to be my personal trainer. He was such a good sport about helping me get out of bed early in the morning so I could go to the gym before he left for work. He'd give me training tips and goals: "Nats, see if you can do a 1/2 mile of your run at 7 mph today..." and stuff like that. Some ladies would punch their husbands if they were telling them how to lose weight (and some days I wanted to slip back in bed and forget that I asked Tyler to be my personal trainer), but really I loved having Tyler's input and advice.
So with a combination of watching what I ate and exercising more (what a concept, I know!), I have been able to lose 15 pounds over about 3 months. It may not have been noticeable to anyone, but I noticed and it feels good. Sure, logging my food can sometimes be a pain, but the knowledge that I have gained along the way was worth every minute I spent logging.
Some things I learned:
* I can still eat chips and treats, but it's a good idea to count out a serving size before devouring the whole bag.
* A slice of homemade pizza isn't healthier just because I made it myself. (But you better believe I still eat it!)
* Vitamin A & C were lacking in my meals
* I was a carb-a-holic. (I still eat plenty of carbs... it's just now I have balance--about 60% of my daily food is carbs instead of 80%!)
* My post-dinner snacks were usually mindless grazing.
* It was okay to stop eating like a pregnant or nursing mother.
Now that I'm at my goal weight, I haven't stopped using NM. I still use it every day to keep myself in check. My hope in posting this is not to brag; heaven knows if I don't watch it, the weight could be back in no time.
But I thought that maybe someone else might be looking for that little something to help them with their goals. Danica's post helped me; maybe this will prevent someone else from tossing a perfectly good box of old clothes! :)
Nutrimirror really is the best!!

Congratulations Nats! Way to go! Now you get the high five.
15 lbs! That is amazing! You're inspiring (I could stand to lose a few lbs) and I'm glad to hear there's a program out there working for so many people.
Good for you girl! I just joined WW online - wish I would have known about this program - I will definitely check it out.
way to go!! You have given me motivation to start working out again. If you can do it with 3 kids I really have no excuse not to.. :) I'm going to show Phil Nutrimirror. I signed up today and hope he'll want to join in. thanks for sharing!
Way to go! You are awesome! And yes, your post was for me. I am feeling so pudgy. I will check it out right away. Thanks!
Ahh! Go YOU!! 15lbs is a big deal!!! I have had a hard time sticking with it, and have gained back about 5lbs of the almost 20 (?!) I lost. I'll get it dialed in before summer's out though. :) I love NM! Thanks for inspiring me again!
Okay, so let's see a picture! Didn't you take a before and after in your workout clothes like they do on the Biggest Loser? You've got me curious, I'll have to look into eat. Is it just motivating you to exercise or do you eat their food/take their drugs kinda thing? Way to go Natalie. That is so awesome. 15 pounds it tons! Keep it up.
Ha ha, Kristen. No before/after pictures here! Maybe I could look through my pictures folder and find some though, for your entertainment.
I guess I should have explained better exactly what Nutrimirror is. It's basically an online source to track your calories, weight, and exercise. No drugs, no special food or anything like that. I, personally, don't even consider it a "diet." It's just a place where you can monitor your calories in vs. calories out and see where you need to improve.
Way to go, Nats! 15 lbs., woohoo! That is incredible. That's like a 10 pound bag of flour and a five pound bag of sugar! Can you believe you were carrying that around now that it's gone?
There's something empowering about learning about the value of food and being accountable for everything you put in your mouth, as well as making conscious decisions about the things you consume. I wish I had learned the things I've learned at WW a long time ago.
Love you!
I thought you looked thinner back on that day we were sewing in the RS room and I was so sick I couldn't hear a thing. I thought my eyes were playing tricks and I forgot to say something but you do look great! Way to go!
Congrats! That's really great, Nats. It's hard to get out of the pregnant or nursing mother eating habits! I tried NM for about a month, but had a hard time sticking with it. The basic idea is really the best way to lost weight though and I love that you see your vitamin deficiencies. Sure, you can lose weight eating only 1200 calories of cheez-its a day, but your not healthy! Anyway, way to go. I need to think about trying it again. Any tips on making it easier to log your food?
You are definitely the last person who needs to worry about losing weight! But I am definitely going to be trying that! Thanks for sharing your secret! And I would definitely punch my husband if he ever said that to me. I would punch him really hard...
that is awesome!! i'll have to check it out!! i have lost 10 pounds doing south beach and an intense 6 week boot camp but i could loose about 5 more pounds! we might be driving out there next week it would be awesome to see you and heidi!! xo, leigh
NATALIE!! I'm so proud of you because I KNOW how hard it is to lose weight. I've been trying for so long. I finally was at my heaviest in January and it took so long but finally in April I started seeing results. I used sparkpeople.com which you count calories and I am running. I am actually training to run a 1/2 marathon + 2 miles in September and i've lost 26 pounds!!! but I still have 15 or so to go. I feel so amazing! I know exactly how you feel! Great job and I want to see pictures of your sexy self!!!
Woo Hoo! I don't believe you even had an extra 15 on you to lose! Way to go skinny mama!
I started reading this post thinking, "what weight does Nat have to loose?" You have always been thin. I do however understand wanting to loose 10-20 pounds. Its the small change that makes you feel fat just as much as the big numbers.
How fulfilling to find a program that really helped. I really liked Body For Life's philosophy. It emphasizes record keeping of what you eat and how much you exercise as well. I think that really helps with accountability.
You nailed it on the head though...there is no secret to weight loss, just eat smaller portions and exercise regularly. No one wants to hear that but it's science...it is the only thing that has real lasting effects.
I have a friend here in Korea who is all excited about this stomach injection people do here to break up belly fat and helps with weight loose. I told her that it may produce some results but there is no magic "pill". She probably wanted to smack me when I told her to just to eat less and exercise more.
I'm so happy that you reached your goal. You deserve a shopping trip since that box of clothes already went to someone else.
Way to go on your achievement! Thanks for the tip -- I've been telling my jogging partner I was going to look for a site like this ... Now that my 'baby' is almost three, I've been thinking it's time to lose my baby fat. Kathleen
