It's little Annie's turn for an update.
* Ever since Annie's hair-cutting episode in March, she is always randomly reminding us, "We don't cut hair!!!!" I'm not kidding--I hear it at least 3 times a day. For example, I will be watching her play at the playground, and she'll scamper off yelling, "Bye Mom! We don't cut hair!!"
* The other Saturday Tyler put Annie down for a nap. He got talking on the phone with his brother while I was working on Primary stuff on the computer. I heard Annie's bedroom door squeak open a few times, but figured she was just going potty or finding a toy or something. After Tyler got off the phone, he was packing up his things to leave, so I asked him to check on Annie on his way out.
A minute later I hear Tyler calling, "Annie?! Annie?! Where are you?... Come out right now!!" We couldn't find her anywhere! Tyler quickly devised a divide-and-conquer plan enlisting Whitney's help to go check at the playground downstairs while he searched the elevators and stairwells. My job was to search inside the house in her hide-and-seek hiding spots (cupboards, windows, showers, shelves...).
Thankfully a few minutes later Tyler came in -- he had found Annie up on another floor bawling her eyes out in front of the apartment directly above us. She told us she had tried to go to "kid soup" (our nickname for the playground here). We assume she went down the stairs, got disoriented while trying to find the playground, turned around to come home, and went too far up the stairs.
Anyway, we were so grateful to find her, and we were even more grateful that that experience scared her enough that she still tells us, "We DON'T leave the house!"
* Annie discovered the baby crib mattress we were storing under her bed. Occasionally, she will pull it out and make her own bed -- calling it her "big girl bed."
* Annie recently ripped open the shower curtain while I was in the shower to tell me that she needed help opening something. She had a package of raisins in one hand, and our butcher knife in the other. YIKES!
* Here's the little munchkin sharing a moment with daddy on our hike last month:
This girl still can do little wrong in Tyler's eyes.
* This month Annie finally learned how to kiss with her lips. We love this awesome little fish face:
* Don't be offended if you hear Annie say, "I don't like you.. " It's always quickly followed by a boisterous, "I LOVE YOU!"
* Things were just a little too quiet the other day, so I started to look for Annie. I found the bathroom door locked, and after knocking a few times, Annie opened the door so I could find this:
I was ready to scream, but Tyler said, "You've got to get a picture of that." Thankfully I did--it's a great memory of these mischievous toddler days. One of her eyes has pink eye shadow on it, and her finger nails look like they were each dipped in the nail polish jar. (Oh, and all the rugs had been taken out of the bathroom b/c Tyler & Whitney had just finished cleaning the bathroom... it's not usually so barren in there.)
* 6 out of 7 days of the week, Annie is the first one to wake up. I love seeing her little bedhead-mullet open my bedroom door and say, "Good morning mommy! Can I have some cereal?"
We are so grateful for this fun-loving, cuddly, fire-ball of a two year old we have in our home. Her spunk and energy keep us laughing... and on our toes! :)

She is a doll!!! I miss living by your cute family!
A BUTCHER KNIFE??? Are you kidding me? Isn't that like a "Psycho" re-enactment?
Good thing she has such a darling fish face. You can forgive a lot just looking at that mug.
What a wonderful way to capture these fleeting toddler antics. Both you and she will laugh when she's older.
Loved it all and we love you guys, too!
She sure does keep you on your toes!
I hate to admit it but... it's true that she can do NO wrong in my eyes. I love this little munchkin. Thanks for keeping these memories so well-documented for us!
Wow, I think you're lucky that the rugs were out of the bathroom! And that she didn't do anything else with that butcher knife on the way. I want to know what happens next... What exactly is a mother supposed to do when she's naked and her toddler is holding a knife the size of her arm? :)
Mindy--Yes, PSYCHO is exactly what came to mind when I saw Annie with the knife!
And Jersha... I felt like a police officer instructing Annie to "slowly put the knife down" while I quickly finished my shower and disciplined as best as I could from behind the curtain! On the bright side, at least she wasn't playing with scissors again? ;)
A butcher knife weidling mullet head. Oh Nats--you crack me up. Goood thing she is such a beauty. Her hair is getting so long. She's so darling asleep on half of her bed.
P.S. Nick uncovered an old picture of you and Ty I posted on our blog. Check it!
P.P.S. Just caught up on your blog. Congrats on a new little girl!!!
Loved the update about Annie. Cute little one! love you guys! Have a great Memorial Day weekend.
I loved catching up on the Nelson news. Your kids have gotten so big... Last time I saw Annie, she was an infant. Now she's a knife wielding beautician. Granted, her style sensibilities are probably better fit for the Ozarks, but she's cute, nonetheless.
And congrats on baby number four! My kids were 3 1/2 years apart, and it was a really good separation. Annie will be old enough to understand what's going on, but not soooo used to being the youngest that it becomes a great big drama. At least that's how it worked with the boys. It could be totally different with girls. What do I know?
We'll be heading back up to Nor Cal in a couple of few short months. Maybe we can meet for a hike in Marin County or something. :o) Say hi to Tyler for us. I hope his residency is treating him well. Only one year left!
Your kids are SO cute, and quite creative! Congrats on baby #4!! Our families are exactly opposite in gender. I hope you have been feeling well. I'm sure your kids are SO excited for the new baby to come. Glad to see you are all doing well. I've been REALLY busy here, but I feel like I'm getting the hang of having 4 kids. Maybe I'll start updating my blog more and checking others as well. I love all your posts, especially the tributes to each of your kids. You're awesome!
