2 weeks

Shannon had her 2 week check up last week on the 15th. She was 8 lbs 5 oz (gained 4 oz from birth), and 21.5 inches long (grew .5 inch).

Here's what we've been up to since the hospital...

* First fieldtrip to the pumpkin patch... 6 days old. These girls can't get enough playtime with this baby.
Recently Whitney told me, "Mom I can't wait for Lauren (her cousin, pictured above) to come over. Now we have a real baby to play house with!" Keep dreaming, girl!

* Playing fashion show by changing Shannon's outfits frequently...

* Admiring the milia on Shannon's little face...

* Watching her sleep...

* Protecting her from the Little Big Sister, Annie...

* Watching the usually uninterested Big Brother warming up to his 3rd sis...
Cole CRACKS up at all of Shannon's bodily functions... literally laughs his head off. A few times I've had to ask him what's so funny, and sure enough, he'll report that Shannon is hiccuping or just loaded up her diaper.

Speaking of bodily functions, I caught this picture of Whitney right as Shannon had just done a burp that was louder than Homer Simpson. The kids and I couldn't believe such a loud sound could come out of such a teeny baby, and it caused us all to have a good laugh.
In the picture above, you can see the sign that Whitney made to welcome her baby sister. Thankfully Whitney was at school when I came home from the hospital and saw the sign and burst into tears.

The sign was the proverbial straw that broke the camel's back... I wasn't crying at the sign as much as I was crying because of lack of sleep. After a long night of interruptions at the hospital (nurses coming in my room way too much to see me and the baby, plus Tyler calling me at 4am asking where the kids' medicine was b/c Cole was complaining of an earache...) I saw the sign saying, "ShanOOn" and started wondering if we named the baby the right name and other things. Tyler wondered what had happened and sent me to my room to kick my feet up and rest.

After some rest, I was fine. I know I've had at least one good irrational, hormonal melt down within the first week of each baby's life. So I got that good cry out of my system and then fell in love with Whitney's sign. It stayed on our door for almost 2 weeks before I took it down. I love Whitney and her thoughtfulness.

* We're still trying to figure out who she looks like... some days I swear she is a cookie cutter image of Cole when he was a baby, but other days I see so much Annie in her.

* Shannon has been enjoying her bath time. She loves to relax in the tub while the water is running, but then (like most babies) freaks out when we take her out and put lotion on her.
We are just soaking up these newborn days, and we feel so blessed to have Shannon in our family!

Oh she is so beautiful! Isn't great that her brothers and sisters love her so much? But it can be so annoying too can't it? You think-just let this girl (and mom) have some space! I learned with baby #4 to let her stay in the nursery the whole night-give that thing a bottle, and I slept for 12hours straight! No interruptions! Hopefully you can try to get some...but good luck going on very little.

She really is a beautiful baby. I think she has a mix of features from all her siblings.

She is so precious, Nats! I've also had a meltdown w/ each of my babies with in the first 2 weeks. It always catches me off guard but it's nice to know that it passes. I love the individual moments with each child. It makes me even more excited! You are doing awesome. Lots of Love, Katie & fam :)

Natalie, I can't believe that you were 8 days late and lived to tell your story. I would have DIED! You are a strong woman! Shannon is absolutely beautiful. I wanted a girl so badly, but our boy will even out the score, I guess. I'm due in about 35 days, and yes, I am on days now, not weeks. I am so anxious to not be pregnant anymore. BTW, I am totally in love with the pictures you guys took at sunset!!! So so so cool! I might have to steal your awesome idea. Congratulations to you and your beautiful family!
