I love the tradition our ward has of having the Fathers/Sons Campout on Mother's Day weekend. It's something we all look forward to.
Tyler asked Cole to make a list of the things they needed for the campout. Here's what he came up with:
This year the Nelsons almost didn't make it. Tyler got home around 7pm--barely in time to grab Cole and the camping gear, head out the door, buy some burgers, and set up camp before dark. Cole requested that the boys wear matching hats (that they got for free from an A's game the other night) on their campout, and Tyler lovingly obliged. Bye boys!
That's probably some oral surgery journal article in Tyler's pocket that he probably read with a flashlight after Cole fell asleep. Sadly, that's the only photo we got of the boys' weekend.
Thankfully there was no whining this year (YAHOO!!) from the girls when they found out that Cole and Dad got a special campout. The girls wanted to eat pizza, so we went to this shop where they sell it by the slice. We shared 2 pieces (they cut them in half for us because they were so huge!) and then had some frozen yogurt.
We finished off the night by heading home and playing Princess Memory together a few times. It was a cold, windy evening, and the girls kept saying how grateful they were that they wereN'T on the campout with the wind, bugs, and cold weather.
The next day we celebrated a great Mother's Day. After speaking in church and then teaching Sunday School to the teenagers, Tyler came home and went to work preparing our Sunday dinner. He cooked lasagna and garlic bread and made a salad. While we were eating, Tyler kept saying, "MMMMM! Isn't this awesome?!?!" {Doesn't food always taste better when you put more work into it?!} Really though, it was, a delicious meal that he prepared. We loved it! ;)
I got some very nice and thoughtful gifts. The homemade signs and coupons are always my favorite. Here are some of the signs from the day. Annie found some skull paper (Tyler must use that for work?) and drew stick arms and legs coming out of the head. Whitney stayed up for hours the night before working on the picture on the left.... punching holes out and lacing ribbon from the hair ribbon box.
This green poster below is my favorite because it declares that indeed I am "a FIREWORK!" Thank you, cheer leading camp for teaching my daughter Katy Perry songs.

Cutest!! Sweet Whit lacing hair ribbons...and I'm dying at Annie's skull people - hilarious! You're for sure a firework Nats!
Ha! Baby, you ARE a firework! (I also am not happy with the school for blaring inappropriate music at the assemblies) Your family is too cute. You need to tell me the secret for having such smart kids, they all seem to write so well for being so young!
So Emma and I are TOTALLY missing out on girls' night stuff because our stake doesn't do Father's and Son's! I know!! I think everyone else in the world does it. Darn it! But fun for you and your girls (and your boys!).
Emma loves Katy Perry too. Geez, the things we already have to deal wtih.
I am so impressed with the attention to detail Whitney gives her creations. She is one thoughtful little girl.
