New School

Tyler wanted to take the kids to a fun place for their last supper before school started. So we took them to a tepanyaki grill (where they cook the food in front of you). So fun! I even brought my farmer tan!
Tyler gave the kids special father's blessings the night before school started.

Here are the kids on their first day of school - 2nd Grade & Kindergarten:
I LOVE that we can walk to school!! This was a candid shot that I couldn't resist capturing. I bet if I had audio to go with this picture, you would hear Whitney reminding Cole to raise his hand in class or telling him to not share his lunch in the cafeteria.
Tyler even got to walk with us that morning!!
Here is Cole's teacher--AKA the best teacher in the school who you dream your child will have.
She is THE sweetest lady. The first 2 weeks, Cole was screaming, crying, and clinging to me when it was drop-off time. His teacher would kindly and lovingly take him under her wing and welcome him into class. Finally Cole started looking forward to school each day -- mostly to see his teacher.

Unfortunately, because of overcrowding, Cole was just transferred out of her class and into a K/1st grade split class on Wednesday. (Since we moved in this summer and registered late, we were at the bottom of the totem pole for class shifting.) My heart was broken, but I knew I had to keep a smile on my face when breaking the news to Cole. Thankfully he has done great with the change. PHEW!

Whitney was "soooo embarassed!" of me taking pictures of her at school. This picture below is her I-will-smile-right-the-first-time-so-mom-will-get-out-of-here-quickly smile.
Thanks for putting up with me, Whit! I love your smiles!

The first week of school Whitney would lament at how BORING school was. But now that they've started on their homework routine and the teacher knows her better, Whitney is really having a great time in class. She comes home with worksheets that stretch her thinking, so I'm happy she's not bored anymore.

OH! And how can I forget Annie?!?! She started home preschool with 4 other friends from church the Tuesday after Labor Day. Like most younger siblings, she could not wait for her moment of front-door fame:

Did you get my Ariel lunchbox on the dining room table, mom?

And one more outside like the big kids:
Her preschool group meets on Tuesdays, and they get together to play and go on field trips on Thursdays.

We are excited to make new memories this year!

So many comments:
1. How did Whitney get soo old? She is so grown up. That picture of her and Cole choked me up. Love sibling moments like that.
2. That sweet story about Cole's teacher...wish they could all be like that, don't we?
3. Annie girl is such a character. She and Eliza would be two (precocious) peas in a pod. Love her long gorgeous hair!
4. I laughed out loud at your farmer tan comment...loved.
5. Love you lots and wish I lived next door to you. I'm still waiting for you to write a parenting book with all your tricks...you are amazing.

Xoxo
