Shannon is 1!
***I was so frustrated with my camera on Shannon's birthday; it kept saying Err 99 and was only taking pictures on the automatic setting. So please forgive the myriad of harsh lighting and blur in so many of these pictures. Grrrrr!***
Grandma Decker woke up early and made Swedish Pancakes (crepes) for the birthday girl.
The kids were almost late to school because they couldn't stand not seeing Shannon open her gifts
My mom snapped this one. Usually I'm not showered and dressed by 8am, but this particular morning I was!
I guess in my excitement at being dressed before 8am, I forgot my make-up. Cool.
Shannon spent the rest of the day hanging out in her new clothes and playing with Grandma & her new toys.
My mom got her this cute picnic basket that plays music and you match the food (shapes) on the plates. Shannon was having a blast with it...
...but unfortunately the big sis thought it was a major hit too. Thanks for the bottle (whole milk!), mom.
That evening, we walked over to our local frozen yogurt shop. We had been wanting to show it to my mom the whole time she was in town, and we figured Shannon's birthday was a great excuse to head over.
Yay for frozen yogurt!
We came home and wrapped up the celebration with Shannon's cupcake. Shannon loved having us sing to her, and she clapped for joy when we finished.
Tyler tried to help her blow out the candle; she was mesmerized.
And that's as far as she got on the cupcake. She took a few bites and acted like it was gross, so she was done.
The 1st birthday is such a bittersweet time.I'm feeling BITTER because my baby is no longer a "baby"
Yet I'm feeling SWEET because now that she's 1, her real personality starts to show. She's not just learning things every month or two. She's learning daily, and I'm so excited to see her grow and learn even more this coming year.
I doubt Shannon knows how thankful we are to have her in our family. So I'll write this down with hopes that maybe she'll read this some day and realize just how crazy we are about her.
THANK YOU, Shanny, for:* rolling with the punches
* being so huggy and loving
* spending so much time patiently in the stroller
* being a mama's girl
* loving Whitney as your 2nd mother
* bringing out Cole's softer side (even when you pull his hair, he still laughs at and loves you)
* giggling hard at Annie and her antics
* being wrapped around your daddy's finger.
We love you so much, baby girl, and we are so glad you joined our family!

What a cutie-pie. She's so grown up. We miss her and all of you guys! Give her a squeeze from her auntie. xoxo
Shannon seriously has so sweetest smile ever. I want to snuggle her so bad! She looks like she enjoyed being center of attention!
BTW- loved Annie's party. The face painting is too much! The little boy with the black bug over his whole face is cracking me up! Also, I love the rapunzel hair decor. Annie looks pretty pleased.
