Red-shirting Annie

You could say we're "red-shirting" Annie this year. In Colorado the deadline for kindergarten is October 1st, and Annie turned 5 on September 29th, so technically she was eligible to start kindergarten this school year.

Academically she's there--she's a great little reader, she knows her states & capitals, and she's becoming more responsible with her jobs. However, she's still so young in my eyes! I guess it was more me who wasn't ready to send her off as a 4 year old back in August.

We're having a great year working on things here at home. She's my little buddy, and I really enjoy having her around. Annie gets to have friends over to play and make crafts:
In the afternoons, she'll take naps for me (usually not a problem if we've played hard that morning):
She draws:
We have the freedom to go to the zoo while the big kids are gone:
Did I mention she still naps?! (And would probably be a grouch in PM kindergarten?)

She was SOOOO excited to turn 5. We woke her up with breakfast in bed...
...and then we had her find her hidden presents.
Annie's #1 cheerleader screamed, "YAY ANNIE!!!" each time Annie opened a gift.
Annie sure got some fun presents!
And Shannon would NOT stop stealing Annie's new suitcase from Gma Decker!
That only caused about 100 fights that day!!

Since Annie's birthday was on a Saturday, we cleaned up the family birthday festivities and then got ready for the friend party complete with lunch....
...Don't Eat Pete (princess style)...
...freeze dance, crafts, a pinata...
...and cupcakes & presents!
Annie claimed it was the BEST BIRTHDAY EVER a few times that day, so we're guessing she had a great time!

Top 5 Things we love about Annie right now:

1) She is compassionate. She hates to see others get hurt and will cry for her siblings if they get hurt and will especially cry (freak out) if there's blood. Annie is always ready to heal someone's hurt with a band-aid and a hug.

2) She is a hard worker. For the most part, Annie diligently does her jobs (reading and emptying the clean silverware from the dishwasher are her favorites). But more than the jobs, Annie loves to reap the rewards & privileges of doing her jobs.

3) Annie is SUPER friendly. Annie loves striking up conversations with the mailman, waiter, or anyone else who is nearby. She usually doesn't stop talking till I practically pull her away.

4) She is a big time singer... but not on demand. She sings our church Primary songs all day long--at the mall, in the car, while coloring--and she loves to jazz up the beat or change the words to the songs to make them funny. However, if I ever try to pull out my camera to record her, she clams up and refuses to perform. Oh well!

5) Annie is part diva. I don't know where she gets it, because I dress for comfort, not style. Annie insists on wearing skirts every day so she can be "fancy."  Even with the recent snow, she still loves those dang skirts. Annie looks for any excuse to put on my make-up, add some bracelets or necklaces, or put bows in her hair.

We love you Annie! Happy 5th! :)

Love it all! I can't believe how much Annie looks like Whitney in the pic where she's making a silly face.

Can Annie please teach me my states and capitals? She is such a doll face. Love that you red-shirted her so you can have another year at home with her. They just grow up too darn fast!!
