Terriffic Two

We got up early on Oct 3rd to hide presents, hang up streamers, and make Shannon breakfast in bed. Shannon must have heard us downstairs because just as we were finishing things, we heard her calling our names from the stairs.

We hurried and grabbed her breakfast tray and told her (nicely & excitedly) to go back to her room for her surprise, but she started bawling her eyes out. After a couple of minutes of trying to reassure her that it was her birthday and that it was a fun thing we were doing, we clued in that a 2 yr old only understands "go to bed" and not "breakfast in bed."

So we scrapped the breakfast in bed idea and took her downstairs to eat at the table where she was MUCH happier.
2 side notes:
1) Her breakfast was a waffle with a side of syrup for her to dip it in & a Go-gurt.
2) I need to not ever step in front of a camera before showering.

Since Annie's birthday was just days before, Shannon totally knew the drill! She found her hidden presents like a champ!
(and got lots of applause each time she found one)

She sat for her picture in front of the camera while working on perfecting her "2" fingers...
...and perfecting her CHEESE smile.
She got some simple gifts from us like Yogurt Raisins (her favorite treat!):
"GO GO NA NA!!!!!"

Here's a short video of her opening a present & "singing" to it:

We gave her the grand finale... a little scooter! Don't be too excited, Shannon!
At the moment I took this picture, she was bugged that it was all packaged up and wouldn't open. But she's had lots of fun riding it since!

I love how she holds one leg up while riding, and even sticks her tongue out for concentration:
That evening we celebrated with some simple cupcakes and singing. She was in heaven.
Happy 2nd little Shannon! :)
