So a big reason we made the trek down to Texas was to celebrate my mom & step-dad's 20th anniversary. They were married in November, so we all decided to celebrate their anniversary & do thanksgiving together.
One night my sister-in-law had the idea to do a "drive-in" for the kids in my mom's backyard. I honestly didn't understand what all would be involved with a "drive-in", but all my expectations were surpassed. They had been saving big boxes for the kids to make cars out of, and the kids were SOOOooooo into it!
The best part is that it didn't require too much effort on the part of the parents (BONUS!). The kids were just in their little imaginary world working so hard on their individual cars. I was shocked at how many hours that project kept them entertained.
When nighttime came, my mom had a guy come put up a HUGE screen with a projector where we all watched... any guesses?
...The Princess Bride! Such a hit!
My mom & step-dad even set up a Snack Bar from the house where the kids could get treats. I didn't get a great shot of the kids lined up getting served by Gma & Gpa, but I got this one of the girls at the end of the night.
My little brother made a family slideshow video as a tribute to the 20th Anniversary Celebration. It included pictures and home movies of us as kids. It was so sweet and had us all choked up. My mom was a wreck.
We also surprised her with a music video! All of us siblings recorded parts of the song and then I compiled all the parts together to make a music video. We chose this particular song because back in the '90s sometime, my mom watched the movie "Benny & Joon." She got such a kick out of the song "500 miles" in the movie that she bought the soundtrack. So on Saturdays when it was time to clean, she would BLAST that song to get us out of bed and grooving to the music.
I don't know why, but when I transferred the movie to Youtube, it cut off the top/bottom parts of some of the video clips. So I'm dissapointed in the quality of video that is showing up on Youtube. It seemed the quality was better on the big screen in the backyard with the original DVD I made. Oh well, you'll get the idea.
