Tyler is now on a new rotation where he commutes on public transit, and his schedule is much more predictable. It's so nice to have him join us for breakfast & dinner and then have him come home refreshed from work. He's able to kill two birds with one stone by studying while commuting, and that is great for a multi-tasker like Tyler. I could definitely get used to this schedule! Too bad it ends at the end of March.
Tyler really wanted to celebrate being done with these hard last 4 months. The other day while in a patient's room, he saw an ad on TV for the Monster Truck Jam on 2/28. On his way home from work that day, he stopped and got us tickets. While he was standing in line to get the tickets, someone passed him a coupon for $$ off to upgrade our seats. So we had some great seats--nice and close to the action and exhaust. I really didn't know what to expect, and the Monster Jam did not disappoint. My awesome sister watched Annie for us so we could take the older kids, and they LOVED it! Tyler even wore his country shirt/costume? and shaved a mustache for the event. Love him. My favorite quote of the night came when Tyler asked me on our ride home, "Nats, you know the adrenaline rush you get while watching the trucks fly in the air? .... Well, multiply that by 10 and that's what a motocross event is like!!" I was laughing so hard because even though I really enjoyed the night, I had no idea what he was talking about with the adrenaline rush. It has to be a guy thing.
I joined Facebook after my last blog post, and so far so good... except for the fact that this last week I have been having the WEIRDEST dreams! In one, I saw that my friend was single on her profile, and I didn't believe her. So what did I do in my dream? I broke into her parents' house back in my home town, and I snuck around to see if I could find my friend. Well, I found her--in her old bedroom with her husband and two cute little girls--and their huge pet HORSE! I was trying to ask her why her FB status said "single" when she had such a darling family... and then I woke up. SO weird.
Whitney is turning the big 5 this weekend--and we've been making preparations for her birthday party that she, of course, is excited to host. I'm about the least Martha Stewart-like person around when it comes to party planning, but I'm doing my best to prepare for it. Really, I struggle with themes, decor, nice cakes, and the cute things moms are supposed to do for birthdays. But this too shall pass. Whitney has made her wish list of food and activities for her day, so thankfully I have some guidelines to follow. Thank you, Whitney.
Cole is keeping us laughing and busy as usual. He had a relatively great day at church yesterday. I guess when we're comparing this week to the last (post-monster truck jam), anything is better than last week. I couldn't get a normal picture of him at the park the other day, but I'm glad I caught him running around with his beloved "anglerfish." Too bad we had to leave that toy at the park. Anything that is long with a bulb looking thing at the end of it is his anglerfish these days--the book reading light, the ipod earphones, or random computer plugs. I guess those are the kind of toys you have to live with when you lose toys for bad behavior!
Annie is in love with her cousin shown here in the picture. We got to watch Andrew for a few hours this past week, and these two buddies were in heaven! And I know what you're thinking here... Yes, she looks like an oompa loompa from the 70's with her hair like this. I'll work on better hairdos. But seriously, these two babies are so much fun! Whenever we get Annie & Andrew together, I feel like I catch a glimpse of the joy mothers of twins must experience. Sure, it's more work and double the trouble, but they crack each other up and entertain each other so sweetly. Annie tried to teach Andrew her latest trick of opening up the oven door and climbing up to the stove, but mommy watched these two like a hawk and spoiled all the fun.
Now I'm off to prepare the birthday festivities this weekend... I guess this means I'll have some new material to post on the blog!

Where on earth did you find a monster truck thingie!! Who knew we lived in hick-town! :)
Speaking of Whitney's bday...we're still unsure if we can make it. If we close we probably can't take the time to bring Emma (I know, we're lame) because we have a ton of work to do before we move in. Hopefully I'll get on the ball and let you know soon!!
Monster truck rally? That is awesome! And I actually LOVE Annie's hair in that last photo, it is adorable. Keep up the good work.
Love your update and glad you all survived these last months - how fun to have Tyler home more!! I just can't stand how cute those kiddos are. Hope the party goes well! Zack and I went to a monster truck show in SLC pre-kids, and it's def a guy thing. :)
I love all the wonderful updates. You will do a great job with the party. Let's be honest, Whit could care less about the decorations. As long as you get her simple requests in about food, she'll be in heaven.
Cole and anglerfish? Is that a Finding Nemo thing? Vance is a T-Rex everyday so I guess anglerfish is looking pretty good right now.
Annie and Andrew always make a good combination...speaking from experience of course. Too bad they're cousins. :)
Annie looks like your mom!!
I am so glad Tyler has a bit more normal schedule this month. I bet this month will be hard to let go of. I cannot get over how big Annie is. I want to give her big kisses. Also, I am pretty sure I had no idea what a anglerfish was when I was Cole's age, he is so stinkin cute! Wish we could be there for Whitney's birthday, give her lots of hugs and kisses from us!
Okay I must be really lame but I think a monster truck show would be cool and I watch the motocross races every weekend on TV with Matt. I say it is way better than baseball, football, etc.
I'm glad to here Tyler is on a more normal schedule! Good post, sounds like you guys are doing great, I guess Tyler invited Garrett up this weekend, but Garrett's dad is coming up to visit. We will have to plan something again and make it work!
I can't remember if I've told you but I've been having the Facebook debate - we'll see I guess... So glad that Tyler is home more for you. And even though I've never had an adrenaline rush I think motocross is better than monster truck too (is it embarrassing that I've seen both?) :)
Love the monster truck rally idea and especially love Tyler's stache! haha I can't get enough of your kids. Sweetest faces on the planet.
I know some kids very eager for Whitney's party! It will be great, no matter what. As soon as her friends are there squealing and laughing with her, she'll feel like her party is the best ever!
I love your updates! First, Monster truck rally + Mustache = awesome! Glad you guys did something fun, and glad his rotation has been a little easier. Good luck with the birthday party! I feel like I struggle with those things too, or maybe it's just that I don't care that much? I figure if I make sure to hug them and tell them I love them everyday, it'll make up for the sad cakes I attempt to make. Way to go for the friends party! I felt like I should too for the big 5, but chickened out and just invited cousins... oh well.
Congratulations on surviving February. Enjoy this month of a cushy schedule. Your kids are so funny and I love reading about what they are doing. I must be a mom or something. Good times.
This is AWESOME! You can always count on Tyler for great ideas. Love that guy.
I think Annie's hair is just way too darling!! Love her jacket. Can't wait for birthday updates and what a gift to share meals with the Daddio! Could Cole be any funnier? I'm hoping our Cole will measure up to that hysterical guy.
Wow, sure looks like you guys had a lot of fun. And I love the shot of Cole wearing shorts and sandals in winter. Only in CA! You're kids are looking so grown up! I love the picture of Annie. I love oompa loompas!
Love,
Tara
LOL! First of all, I was cracking up over your Obamacita comment on Maegan's blog. Then this blog had me laughing again. Those kids of yours & Andrew are SO dang cute! I love Whitney's boots, Cole's anglerfish, Tyler's mustache and Annie's high ponytail. You're awesome. Next time we need a picture of you :). I'm glad your life is taking a turn towards normal this month.
That's so funny your updated post said March 9th -- I've been checking your blog once in a while and I didn't see your update until today March 25th. I must have a weird computer connection or something. Anyway -- it's so great to read an update and see a few pictures of your darling family. Glad to hear Whitney and Tyler's birthdays went so well. We're excited to see Tyler out here in VA in a few days to party with us. Wish Natalie and the three kids could come too -- maybe next time?
