The girls and I usually play in the outfield during Cole's practices.
Cole is learning to enjoy the game. The 30 minutes before his first game, Cole was inconsolable bawling his eyes out that he was the worst kid on the team and that he was going to lose. I didn't have the heart to take a picture of the crocodile tears. Tyler came to the rescue and told him he could have some Big League Chew for an incentive to man up. Miraculously by the 2nd inning Cole realized that he was having fun!
At one part of the game, Cole hit the ball and then just stood there for a good 5 seconds till he realized that we were all screaming for him to run. He ran too late and got out at first. :(
His team won that game, so the umpire gave the coach the game ball. The coach "awarded" it to Cole and Cole of course was SOOOOOO excited. I asked Cole, "Wow! You got the game ball?! Why do you think you got it?" I was wrong in thinking he'd say something deep like, "I had a change of heart and stopped crying," or "I realized that there was nothing to be scared about..."
Cole instead said, "Probably because I hit that home run."
Oh buddy. We've got a lot to learn about baseball
Whitney's having a good time. I think she mostly likes the social aspect of screaming her lungs out for the other players and singing the funky cheers: "A-B-C-D-E-F-G, you don't want to mess with me: Yo mamma, yo dadda, yo bald-headed grama. She's 99, she thinks she's fine, she dates a guy named Frankenstein..." WHAT?!?
She picked lucky #13 for her jersey, they all have matching headbands and hairbows, and please look at the flaming socks. All part of the fun!
And check out those chalk lines in that middle pic! That's right, yours truly took the field prep class and my job (with other parents helping me, thank goodness!) is to chalk up the field whenever we're the home team. It's especially fun chalking up the field with Shannon screaming in the stroller and Annie & Cole fighting and jumping off the bleachers. YES!!!!
Here's a little clip of her first hit. We were ecstatic even though she kind of stalled in shock while running to first :)

I get excited for my kids to be in sports/activities because I think it will be so fun. Then I read posts like this and remember that mostly it will be chaos. :) Haha!
Oh my! You are the best blogger! I am dying at your comments! Love Cole's game ball comment and way to go both of them with their hits! I loved the year of softball I played and still remember screaming those dumb but fun cheers. You go girl, chalking up the field!
Go Whitney! She is a good little runner.
Awesome! So fun that Cole is in baseball and Whitney is in softball! Thanks for sharing! :)
That girl is super athletic! Wow, look at that stride and strength. I really think you've got a natural athlete there. Very impressive.
